Volunteer at Village Food Pantry

Everything you need to get started!

  1. Volunteer Application
  2. Online Training
  3. Pantry Orientation Visit

Step 1: Submit a Volunteer Application

You can join our positive team and help put food on the tables of seniors, families with children, students, and others in our community.

Interested in volunteering?

Your first step is to fill out our Volunteer Application Form (Click the button below)

Step 2: Complete our Online Training

Now that you've submitted your Volunteer Application, you can complete our online training, which can take less than an hour.

  • Civil Rights & Confidentiality
  • Safe Lifting
  • Food Safety Requirement

Once you have completed all three parts of the training, please submit the Volunteer Training Form, found below the Food Safety Requirement.

If you choose to complete the ServSafe option, please submit the Volunteer Training Form and also bring your completed test paper with you to your Pantry Orientation Visit.

Civil Rights and Confidentiality

This 22-minute video from the Oregon Food Bank helps us be aware of the finer points of providing equal, fair, and respectful service to all our participants.

Safe Lifting

This 10-minute video from Phoenix Parks shows how to stay safe while lifting different kinds of loads we may find in the pantry.

(Although lifting is not required for all volunteer roles, we can all be aware of safe practices and help our teams stay safe.)

Food Safety Requirement

We are working for a healthy community, and we want to keep our participants safe through excellent food handling and storage practices. You can meet the food safety training requirement in one of three ways.

1. Watch the 16-minute Oregon Food Bank (OFB) Food Safety Video. (This is fast and free).

OR

2. Have a valid Oregon Food Handler's Card (This is convenient if you already have it for another job.)

OR

3. Do the ServSafe training. (ServSafe is required only for lead volunteers and optional for others. It's more detailed than the OFB Food Safety Video, and it has a test). If you choose this option, please bring your completed test paper to your Pantry Orientation Visit.

Step 3: Pantry Orientation Visit

One of our admin team will contact you to schedule a Pantry Orientation Visit, where you will see the pantry in operation, meet your team, learn how to sign up for volunteer shifts, and more.

We are all volunteers, and we usually respond within a week of receiving your Volunteer Application.

Please feel free to email us at food@avillage.cc with any questions you may have.

Thank you for giving back to our community by volunteering!
